It had been a few weeks since their arrival, but Brooklyn Luna Hazelton believe that both she and her horse, Twilight, had settled in well. The United Kingdom had been a shock to her system between the ocean views, quaint little town, and above all, the accents. Brooklyn wasn’t used to sticking out like a sore thumb in an environment, perhaps not since her first day of riding back at Blue Moon in Texas, but even then, her accent could compete with the locals. Here – she was just a loud American.
But the young teenager didn’t mind that as long as she had Twilight with her, and unlike her little sister Carrie, she was planning on making the best of their new home. It was different, yes, but it was full of possibility and adventure, and Brooklyn felt reassured that her father’s tour would last through graduating high school – or, whatever Hickstead called High School. Her arrival at Seven Oaks hadn’t exactly gone smoothly, Twilight freaked out coming off the trailer, and she had a run in with one of the resident teenage snobs and her croney, but that certainly wouldn’t deter her.
She had a great feeling about the coming years and her stay in Hickstead, and likely would be spending as much time as she possibly could at Seven Oaks. Tacking up Twilight, she gave him a solid pat, “Are you ready to explore these trails, boy? I hear they’re to die for.” The black horse snorted, seemingly confirming that he was ready to rumble. Heading off to a mounting block, it wasn’t long before Brooklyn was seated and they walked off, leaving Seven Oaks behind and heading into the great unknown. Maybe she’d make a new friend on the trail who had nothing to do with Clarissa and Stacey.
As they came to a fork in the trails, Brooklyn stopped and pulled a map out of the pocket of her breeches, “I think…the waterfalls are...this way.” Okay, so her map was a little crude given that she had drawn it out based off of Leo White’s enthusiastic descriptions, and maybe, just maybe, Brooklyn had been distracted by the brooding boy who had been attending to his chestnut horse. Ronan, maybe? So half of this trail ride appeared to be going on a whim. But she couldn’t have gotten herself and Twilight so turned around…could she? A snort escaped her mustang, growing impatient, “Okay okay, it's this way, I’m sure of it.” With that, she squeezed him forward and went on their way, completely unaware that they were heading towards a dangerously steep drop off that was not a waterfall.

Janie hadn’t been on a trail ride with Darth in a long time. Maybe a bit longer than she wanted to do so, but she had been riding and training him a lot since he arrived. There were still a few things he wasn’t too keen on, but Janie knew better than to rush her horse. After finding Phoenix, Janie was excelling quite well in her trick riding. Today though, she needed a quiet ride. Well, somewhat. Darth still needed to be tuckered out.
After being dropped off with a few other BA riders, Janie made her way at a decent pace through the trail. The shade of the trees was welcoming, but the humidity was still a pain in the ass. Darth’s hooves making sounds on the roots and rocks kept Janie in this weird trance. As the sounds of the water began coming into ear reach, Janie forced herself to pay more attention.
As she was guiding Darth around a tree that had fallen, Janie caught a rider that wasn’t going in the right direction. Not knowing if her voice would carry, she did the whistle Oliver’s dad taught her. It was this loud whistle through her lips. “Hey!” she called out, making Darth stop. “You need to turn around!”
The pair were making their way through some brush and trees, the waterfall must be close since Brooklyn was fairly certain she could hear the faint sounds of rushing water. They had to be close to it now. Apparently, they were not the only ones though as the teenager heard a sharp whistle cut through the air. The sound gave both her and Twilight pause, as the mustang whickered lowly and tossed his head at the at the unexpected sound. Brooklyn sat deep in the saddle as he danced a little bit, and she did her best to regain his focus and attention before looking over.
Brown eyes caught the sight of a girl and her horse now. They made quite the good looking pair - the horse and rider, her shades of blue outfit balancing nice against her horse's almost complete white fur, "Turn around?" Brooklyn called out now, glancing back towards the direction in which she had been heading before looking back at the pair, who drew closer now, "But isn't that the way to the waterfall?!" Great, had it turned out she had been wrong? The fifteen year old had been so certain that she had been going the right way. Sighing, deciding that stubbornness wasn't going to win her any favors, redirected Twilight now to join the other two.
Upon closer inspection, Brooklyn didn't recognize either horse or rider, so decided it was best to introduce herself now, "I'm Brooklyn by the way, he's Twilight. And...I guess...we're lost."

Janie gave the other teen a sympathetic look. “Unfortunately, yeah. The gorge is that way, so the waterfall sounds louder,” Janie said after the girl introduced herself and the horse. “Nice to meet you, Brooklyn. I’m Janie, and this is Darth.”
“It’s okay, there’s a lot of trails around these parts, and knowing your bearings can be a bit of a chore. It’s why my parents insist I have a tracker on me, and people make sure I know the maps. I just know that trail is often closed off, anyway. A lot of landslides and steep land. But I’m headed toward the waterfall myself if you want to ride with me?” Janie offered. Might as well, right together. Less chance of getting lost, and having a buddy was never a bad thing.
Brooklyn felt her eyebrows arch and her eyes widen at the blonde girl's explanation, "Gorge?" She pulled out her map now, looking it over, "I don't remember anyone telling me anything ab out a gorge." Guess she really was lost and/or turned around then. Well, this was utterly embarrassing. The teenager made a mental note to not bring this up to her parents today when they asked her how her day went - it would get her nothing but a lecture from Major Eric Hazelton on how he taught her better than that for land navigation skills. At least, she seemed to be making a new acquaintance out of it, "Nice to meet you and Darth, Janie! I have to say, he is super cute." And rather unique.
A snort escaped her black mustang now, shaking his head - he was likely impatient with standing around now, but Brooklyn couldn't help but to think he was jealous too that she was fawning over something else. Laughter escaped her, as she gave him a good pat as she listened to Janie explain their situation, "Geez, your parents almost sound like my parents." She joked now, "I didn't realize the wilds of England could be so dangerous. Apparently I stand corrected." And Brooklyn really did mean that, she wasn't trying to be a snob about it. At the invitation for an accompanied ride, a smile quickly lit up her face, "I'd love that! I'm always excited to meet fellow horse girls. Why don't you lead the way while I pepper you with questions such as - I haven't seen you at Seven Oaks before...do you ride there? Or over at Blue Arces?"
She nudged Twilight to start going after Darth now, knowing this would be a curious ride given that her horse often didn't like to be second fiddle when it comes to being leader, but he was just going to have to deal. Hopefully, Janie would be able to bare with the pair, and wasn't a snob like she heard some of the Blue Arce riders could be.

“Thanks! He was kind of an impulsive decision. Well, I had to put in a lot of work to convince my parents I was ready for a horse. And all that. Since you know, we must be responsible sometimes,” Janie laughed. She wasn’t mad about it, but like all teenagers, she had moments rolling her eyes. If anything, her parents wanted to make sure she was doing everything else she needed to do.
“I can’t promise of the crazy wildlife I hear some of my family states talk about. Lynx and other wild cats…The only thing that has scared me is when a hawk almost dove at me!” That was a wild time, literally. Thankfully, Janie wasn’t on Darth. She could only imagine what it would have been like if she had.
She gave a shake of her head. “I ride at Blue Acres! But there are times I attend some events hosted at Seven Oaks. I don’t do a lot of competitive riding. What about you? Seven Oaks, I assume?”
Brooklyn couldn't help but to laugh at the other girl's explanation about how her horse had been a bit of an impulsive decision followed by convincing her parents that she was up to the task, "Ha! That sounds a lot like my own story." Although, her's was more of a 'rehoming' verses buying, which meant even more convincing. But all of that was in the past now for both girls, and there was no need to dwell on it. However, she clocked that eyeroll that Janie had given at the mention of being 'responsible', and Brooklyn couldn't help but to grin, "Oh, I know. Neverminded we're practically adults." Okay, so maybe a little less than adults, given she herself was still 3 years shy of eighteen but come on, disney princess logic does not lie.
Janie's bird story actually made her eyebrows arch, "A hawk dove at you? That's wild." She actually couldn't decide what would be more terrifying. Coming across some wild cat or having a bird dive bomb her with its tallons. Both sounded a little terrifying, and utterly annoying, "Well, I'm sure with the two of us," Twilight gave a snort, "I mean, four of us, no wild life will dare take us on. Twilight and Darth will certainly keep us safe."
The pair moved along now skillfully on the trial, Brooklyn making sure that her mustang didn't try to crowd the unique colored horse in front of them. While Darth seemed nice and cute, she knew not every horse was a fan of having someone right up their ass, and this was certainly proving to be good schooling to Twilight that he didn't always have to be leader, "Oh really? Are there a lot of events between the two barns?" She was certainly curious now, given how some of the older riders and stablehands seem to consider Blue Arces their rivals, "I have to say - you don't look or seem like a snob." Wow, Brooklyn, "I mean, some of the people who have been at the barn for a while seem to have their biased opinions thanks to a rooted rivalry, but honestly, you seem pretty cool to me." And therefore, did not need to be a rival in the equestrian ring.

“I do trick riding, so there are times that Seven Oaks offers some more clinics than Blue Acres.” Some people saw Janie as cheating, but she didn’t care. Her money was going towards what she thought would be the best for her. So far, no one had been agitating her about it.
“Ah, thanks, I hope I come across as someone decent!” While Janie knew about the competition, she always tried to keep it friendly. Maybe it was because she didn’t get into the usual competition. So far, the only people Janie had to compete with were other trick riders, who felt far and few in between. At least, she had a horse and was making enough money to keep Darth alive.
“Have you been enjoying your lessons, though? I don’t know too many of the coaches over there.” Janie asked, adjusting her seat as the pair were headed down a slight decline.
"Trick riding?" Brooklyn asked now, her eyebrows arching, "Now that is something I don't hear every day." And boy, did she just sound like a total bitch, "That's super cool though. You'll have to let me know next time you're over at Seven Oaks! I'd love to watch you." The teenager wasn't even sure the last time she saw such a display, unless one counted the circus when she had been seven or eight. She gave a bit a thought before asking, "What made you get into that? If you don't mind me asking that is."
Laughter bubbled up from her now at Janie's words, and Brooklyn just smiled, "Don't worry - you defilingly do. Any one who stops me and Twilight from walking off a cliff is more than cool in my book." After all, the other girl could have done nothing at all. Hopefully she wouldn't have, but Brooklyn knew that some people just didn't think it was their problem or responsibility when someone was lost.
Up ahead, it looked like the trail dropped off a bit, meaning a decline was coming up. Brooklyn pulled back on her reins now, allowing Janie and Darth to take the lead. Thankfully, Twilight didn't seem to have much thought about it as they came to the edge now. Leaning back in her saddle and giving the mustang his head, they slowly followed down after the other pair, "I ride with Mr. White...er, Logan White." After all, you throw around the name White and that could be any one of the coaches, "He's very nice, bit withdrawn though. I might be too much for him sometimes. She had a minor thought, "Are you at Hickstead or Willow Brooke? Cause if it's the former, I might need to get the skinny on it from you."

“Well, to be honest – I started with ballet and acrobatics first. Somehow, I got into riding along the way and meshed them together. I’m still learning to ride in a dressage or jumping kind of way. You know, to keep my horse on their hooves.” She couldn’t help but laugh at her joke, but Janie was getting better at not caring if that came off as odd. Someone had to find her funny, and if it was just her – that was okay.
Darth was getting a little distracted, but Janie managed to stray him from a tasty snack. He was getting better at slower-paced trail rides with other riders. But it meant Janie had to carry a few things to give as positive reinforcement.
“I don’t think I’ve met him yet. I’ve only met Lili White since she handles most of the clinic stuff. But sure! Though, I don’t think the trick riding will be hard to miss. Just look for the ones doing handstands!” Janie guided Darth as the path began to switch back up the incline. It wasn’t too bad and it began going flat after a mile or so. She knew she was getting close as the water was becoming louder.
“I attend Hickstead, but I have few friends that go to Willow Brooke! If you need info, I may be the wrong person to ask.”
